Week 4- Yummy Projects and Dust Echoes- Ancient Stories and Integrate it in to Curriculum

In today's Learning Technologies workshop we played with different activities to do in our classroom. The first was the, M&M activity- you can also use little coloured cut outs (dots or stars)
Firstly, ask students before they open the packet- to make predictions about weight and different colours of how many might be in the bag.
Once the bag is open have the children sort them by colour and weigh them.
Students then fill in the graph. See my example above :).
Additionally, students can create graph on computer using excel see my example below.
Ideas with graph’s- do survey’s across the school, ‘what is your eye colour?’, ‘what is your favourite flavour of ice cream?’

During part two of our workshop we played with a website that was all about indigenous culture. Using the website: http://www.abc.net.au/dustechoes/dustEchoesFlash.htm
along with inspirations we created a diagram. The website had different movies on in and we captured pictures of the main events in the story to retell what had happened in the movie. Afterwards we were able to look at everyones work in our class. It was so cool to see what everyone did. This would be a great activity in the classroom!

Week 3- Getting Better at this!

Reflection 3

Lecture/ Cautions with the internet:

I couldn’t help but feeling a bit depressed after leaving the lecture on August 31,
2010. I was overwhelmed about all the dangers that were brought to my attention
in regards to internet use, in-particular dangers for children. I always knew dangers
existed and that we all needed to be cautious when disclosing information on the
internet but I suppose I hadn’t really ponder all the dangers with bulling that can
occur on the internet these days.

Work Shop/ Games:

Design Process- getting your students to design their own game! How cool is this
idea?! Today we designed jumping frogs from cardboard, sticky tape, a picture of a
fog and a rubber band. The idea of the activity was to use all the materials provided
and make the frog jump. We were to record our process along the way and then
analyse at the end.

We also designed are own quizzes and activities with a website called: quai.com/
web. I designed a quiz about reality TV stars and a cloze about the beach…it was
Awesome! I think this could be a great activity in the classroom. It would promote
creativity, higher the level of thinking about a particular subject and encourage
participation.

Being politically correct… a phrase that is passing through my mind more and
more these days. Even with the game hangman… It never occurred to me that
this could be politically incorrect but now that it has been brought to my attention
I definitely understand how it could be interrupted with negative connotations.

Week 2

Week 2 Reflections
Along with doing the activities you see above, this week in Technology Across Curriculum we also learned about e-portfolios, how to use them and how to set them up.  We had a discussion about the growing use of portfolios in the classroom and the benefits they have. I really like the student portfolios and thought they had so many great aspects to them. The component I liked the most was the ability to upload video and audio to the portfolios. Using the e-portfolios for talking points during student-parent-teacher conferences would be a really meaningful tool to demonstrate the students performance in the classroom. We also discussed using an e-portfolio in a professional setting, using an e-portfolio to represent yourself digitally. I think this is a great idea and can be used during interviews with perspective employers.

First timmer!

Blogging for me first time! Excited to be doing this as I have always wanted to start my own blog. This blog will be an on-going review of my 'Learning Technology in Classrooms' lectures.
Today we discovered how to play with and utilize the program, Inspirations. Using this in the classroom will be a lot of fun. I think students would love using this and as a teacher I am certain I would be able to utilize this as a great assessment tool.
Over to the left I have created a mind map of where I am from, San Francisco, CA. Below I started to create a mind map of Paris, France. Both were really fun to create and had me thinking of my past experiences in both locations.
